Description
Rose Cottage and the adjoining house are a late 18th century and late 19th century structure located on the north-east side of Main Street in Gumley. The buildings are constructed of brick with graded Swithland stone and have Welsh slate roofs featuring a ridge and two gable stacks. A dentilled brick cornice adds to the architectural detail.
The west front of the building is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with a projecting two-bay cottage addition on the right. The main house has an off-centre doorway that is topped with a flat hood supported by brackets. The door is a six-panel design and is flanked by two single three-light casement windows, which have cambered arches above them. On the upper level, there are two two-light casements.
The bay on the right is now part of Rose Cottage and features a single three-light casement with a cambered arch, along with a two-light casement above. To the right of this is a through passage leading to a doorway with a four-panel door, which is sheltered by a lean-to wooden porch that has a slate roof. Beyond this porch, there is a single plain sash window under a cambered lintel, with two similar plain sashes located above.
