Description
This is a row of houses, now functioning as shops, located on Church Street. They date back to the 17th century but were refronted in the 18th and 19th centuries, with further alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed of brick, with nos. 4 and 6 featuring roughcast, while nos. 8 and 10 are plastered. They have plain tiled roofs and are two storeys high with attics. The row has a brick dentilled cornice, except for no. 10, which has a wooden eaves cornice. There are various stacks at the rear and four gabled dormers. The first floor has a slightly irregular arrangement of six windows, featuring tall segment-headed casements, except for a sash window at no. 10.
The shops have distinct entrances: there is a single shop front at the extreme right with a glazed door at no. 4, a single shop front to the right of centre with a glazed door at no. 6, a double shop front with a central half-glazed door at no. 8, and a single shop front at the extreme left with a glazed door at no. 10. In the centre, there is a panelled door set in a moulded architrave surround that leads to the rear of the building.
