Description

The Church Langton War Memorial is made of limestone and features a wheel-head cross with a Sword of Sacrifice carved in low relief. The cross is mounted on a tapered rectangular plinth and base, standing approximately 3.6 meters high.

The plinth has a dedicatory inscription that is duplicated: it is presented in lead lettering on the front and carved in relief on the rear. The inscription reads: 1914 – 1919/ TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF/ (NAMES FOLLOWED BY VILLAGES)/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR THAT WE MIGHT LIVE/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.
