Description

The stable block to the north of Langton Hall is a Grade II listed building constructed of brick and stone, arranged in four ranges around a courtyard. It dates from the mid-18th century, with additions and alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The south range, originally from the mid-18th century, features an iron-stone plinth and a 20th-century concrete tile roof with brick coped gables. It has a 19th-century square clock cupola with a pyramidal plain tile roof. The south front is 1½ storeys high with 14 irregular bays, including a central blocked carriage entrance that has an inserted plank door. The left and right sides have altered door and window openings, some featuring 19th-century, 2-light casements. All openings are topped with gauged brick segmental arches. Above, there are five 20th-century flat-roofed dormers, each with a 2-light casement, and to the right, a 19th-century gabled hayloft entrance with a plank door. The courtyard elevation of the south range includes an attached 19th-century glazed canopy supported by iron columns, and to the left, a two-storey, two-bay cottage with 20th-century alterations.

The west range facing the courtyard has a two-storey, four-bay cottage on the left with a hipped slate roof, and to the right, a single-storey ancillary block featuring four sliding sashes and two plank doors, all with cambered arches. The north range also faces the courtyard and has a hipped Swithland slate roof. It is two storeys tall with ten bays, alternating between doorways with plank doors and overlights, and sashes, mostly with glazing bars, all topped with cambered arches. Above, there are five windows and two doors on the upper level.
