Description

The Nevill Arms Public House is a public house dated 1863, constructed from coursed squared stone with quoins, a plinth, and stone dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring brick end stacks. The building is designed in the Tudor style, with stone-coped gables and kneelers. It has two storeys, featuring four stone mullion windows with leaded diamond lattice casements and hood moulds, including two three-light windows, one two-light window, and one three-light window on the upper floor. The ground floor has similar windows, but instead of the two-light window, there is a doorway. Two stone steps lead up to a moulded drop archway with a hood mould and label stops, which contains a plank door with ornamental hinges. At the rear, there are wings, with the right wing featuring a carriage archway leading to the rear yard. The sides of the wings facing the yard are made of red brick. Above the entrance door, there are two tablets painted white on black; the upper tablet is inscribed 'The Nevill Arms' and the lower one reads 'M' over 'G.N., 1863'. This building was purpose-built by a member of the Nevill family of Nevill Holt Hall.
