Description
Garrett's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1706, associated with John Garrett. It was partially rebuilt in the early 19th century. The structure is timber-framed with red brick cladding, except for the north side and the west wing, where the timber frame is exposed with straight braces and red brick infilling. The roofs are slate and hipped to the southeast. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a former barn parallel to the road that has been converted for domestic use. There is a large brick chimney stack to the south and an end stack to the north. The fenestration is irregular, featuring two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor at the front, along with one window on each floor at the rear, all of which are casements. There are doorways on the inner elevations, one of which is boarded and the other half-glazed. Historically, the date 1706 likely marks the first construction of a house on this site, as John Garrett owned agricultural buildings here in 1665, but no house is recorded at that time.
