Description

The Old Grey Hound Inn is a public house dating from the 17th century, with a half-storey added in the late 18th century. It features a timber frame with brick nogging, which is rendered and whitewashed. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and is hipped to the left, topped with a brick ridge stack. The building has three storeys and two windows on each floor.

On the first floor, there are two three-light centre-opening casements with top lights, along with two early 19th-century two-light casements above. The ground floor showcases a long open verandah porch from around 1900, featuring a wooden balustrade and columns that support a Welsh slate hipped roof with two skylights. A bracketed cornice runs along the top. The central gabled opening leads to a six-panelled door with a bracketed hood, flanked by two four-light casements with leaded lights.

On the left end of the building, there are two first-floor centre-opening three-light casements, with the left one having top lights. The ground floor has two five-light shallow bow windows with leaded lights, which are set within the wall's width. The right end includes a one-storey extension with a canted bay and a door with an overlight.

Inside, the pub features four wall posts, an inglenook with a hood, and chamfered beams with ogee stops. Behind the wallpaper, large panels of timber framing can be seen, which has also been raised in timber framing. The front has a three-bay single purlin tie-beam roof with collars and clasped principals. The roof on the left side has been altered due to the raising of the building, and there are extensions at the rear.
