Description

Ratcliffe Hall is a country house dating from the early 19th century, with extensions added in the early 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with a Swithland slate roof, featuring brick and stone ridge stacks and a painted moulded eaves cornice. Wings project forward on either side, each with similar painted cornices to the pediments.

The main facade has two storeys and five windows, with gauged brick lintels over the windows. Each wing features a tripartite 2/2 : 6/6 : 2/2 sash window on both floors, with a lower left window blank. A recessed central section is fronted by a single-storey Doric columned porch with an entablature and balustrade, accessed by three steps. The porch contains a six-panelled door with a two-leaved design, flanked by a 6/6 sash window. Above the door, on the first floor, is a 4/4 sash window either side of a French window with top lights. To the right is a single-storey, parapeted wing with a tripartite 3/3 : 9/9 : 3/3 sash window, further French window and a 12/12 sash. An early 20th-century two-storey extension is on the left end, built in a similar style, with a two-storey canted bay and predominantly 6/6 sash windows to the return front. The rear garden front is similar, featuring two two-storey canted bays, the one on the left projecting further forward, and a mix of 6/6 sash windows.
