Description
The vestry at the churchyard of All Saints is a detached building dated 1835. It is constructed of granite rubble stone and brick, topped with a hipped roof made of Welsh slate and featuring a brick side stack. The vestry is a single storey with a central doorway that has a stone surround and door. Above the door is a stone tablet carved with the Babington coat of arms and inscribed with 'Erected April 1835'. There are small niches on either side of the doorway. On the right side, there are two 3-light casement windows, with the top glazing bars forming Gothic arches. This vestry was used as a meeting room and a place of shelter for 'Temperance' groups, which were organized and brought from Leicester by Thomas Cook, known for Cook's Tours. Both Thomas Cook and William Babington, the Rector of Cossington, were involved in this movement. Information is provided by the present Rector.
