Description

This is a 16th-century cottage located on the west side of Main Street in Cossington. The original structure is timber-framed with a post-and-span system, featuring roughcast infill panels and whitewashed brick to the rear. It has a roof of Swithland slate with a brick chimney stack containing two flues arranged diagonally. The front facade has a doorway to the left of a three-light casement window, and a four-light casement window above. The first floor exhibits herringbone pattern timber framing and is jettied. Both casements feature early 19th-century cast iron decorative glazing bars. The left end of the cottage abuts No. 46, while the right end has a two-light window on both floors, with the framing forming a quatrefoil pattern in the gable. An early 19th-century two-span addition is present to the rear, along with a single-storey extension.
