Description
The stable block and pigsty at The Brand were built around 1875, likely designed by Alfred Waterhouse for Arthur Ellis. The structure is made of granite and slate rubble stone, topped with a plain tile roof featuring a central ridge and rear stacks. It is a long building with one and a half storeys, and the gables are adorned with decorative barge boards.
The facade includes three pairs of carriage doors, a door with a half dormer above, a two-light window, another door with a small dormer over it, two additional two-light windows, a door with a door above in a small gabled projection, and two more two-light windows with a small dormer above. Steps lead up to the door at the right end. There is a three-light window at the left end, along with an outshut and a dormer at the rear.
The pigsty is located across the stable yard and is an open, square structure with a stone-coped plinth and fourteen wooden pillars supporting a hipped plain tile roof, which features a metal finial and a small lucarne. A wall extends to the right, creating a small enclosure. This building has group value with The Brand Cottage, which is situated between them.
