Description

The Heanes family headstones, dating from around 1750, are located in the churchyard of St. Mary in the Elms. Made of Swithland slate, the three headstones share a similar design featuring a carved coat of arms in a circle above the inscriptions. They are positioned together against the northeast wall of the chancel and form a group with the church, the war memorial, and Garat's Hay, which adds to their significance.
