Description
South Manor Farmhouse is a house that features an exterior largely from the early 19th century, but it has a core that is substantially older. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork and has a Welsh slate roof, sitting on a plinth that is now rendered over but is likely made of rubble. It is two storeys high and has a main range of two bays with a cross wing. The doorway is located in the inner face of the wing and is framed by an elaborately turned timber-work porch.
The main range has two renewed casement windows on the ground floor, one of which has been altered to cut through an earlier opening that has a cambered brick head. There is also a blocked segmentally arched opening between these two windows. On the upper floor, there are three three-light casement windows, and each floor of the gable features one three-light window with cambered brick heads. The gable is adorned with prominent barge boards and has both gable and axial stacks. At the rear, there is a 19th-century parallel range that is tall and two storeys high, with chamfered surrounds to the windows, many of which are fitted with heavily latticed panes. Inside, the farmhouse contains massive spine beams and other features.
