Description
The Coach House and Stable at Stoneywell Cottage, built in 1902, was designed by Ernest Gimson for his elder brother Sydney Gimson. The structure features granite and slate rubble stone, along with timber-framed weatherboarding, topped with a Swithland slate roof and a stone ridge stack. It has wooden gutters and downpipes and is arranged in an L shape over one and a half storeys. The longer section projects forward towards the road and has a gable facing the street.
On the inside return, there is a stable door flanked by a long narrow four-light casement on either side, with two small triangular dormers above. The right range includes a door with a one-light casement and double doors. At the right end, there is a buttress and a first-floor door leading to an open landing with steps. The triangular gable apex features a window with a central strut. The rear of this range has two two-light casements and a two-light dormer above. Adjacent to this is the gable end of the other range, which has a door and a larger gable apex window with a central strut. At the back of this range, there is a three-light casement and two tiny triangular dormers.
