Description

Brook's Edge is a house with an adjoining service wing, dating from the mid-18th century and around 1800, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick, partly roughcast and whitewashed, and features slate roofs. The front has a rendered plinth and wood modillioned eaves, with two gable stacks, one of which is external on the north side.

The structure is two to three storeys high and has five bays. The west elevation displays a symmetrical three-bay front on the right, featuring a central reeded doorcase with a pediment and fanlight, along with a 19th-century door that has glazed top panels. On either side of the door are three-light 19th-century casements. Above the door, there is a two-light casement flanked by single three-light casements, all with moulded sills and lintels that have incised crosses. Above this, there is a central two-light casement flanked by single three-light casements.

To the left is a two-bay service wing from the 18th century, raised in the 19th century, with a brick plinth, a first-floor band, and two gable stacks. The central window is a three-light casement with a rubbed brick head, flanked on the left by a 20th-century door and on the right by a 20th-century casement. Above, there is a blocked central window and a 19th-century casement to the right.

The rear elevation features a moulded doorcase with a six-panel 19th-century door, where the top four panels are glazed. To the right, the service wing has a central blocked doorway flanked by single three-light 19th-century casements and, further left, a 20th-century casement, all with segmental heads. Above this, there are two 19th-century sashes flanked on the left by a single three-light sliding sash and on the right by two similar sliding sashes.

The main south gable has a first-floor band and a three-light 19th-century casement to the left, with a 19th-century margin light window above it. Inside, there is a four-flight oak dogleg stair from the early 19th century, featuring turned balusters and a moulded handrail, as well as a stop-chamfered span beam. There are also two matching elliptical-headed fitted cupboards, one of which has doors.
