Description

This is a villa-style farmhouse dating to around 1800, with later 19th-century additions and alterations. It was converted in 1967 to a residential home. The exterior is roughcast with hipped roofs covered in Swithland slate, and stucco stacks. The building is two stories with a three-by-three bay layout, accompanied by service ranges and an attic.

The symmetrical front features a recessed central section and projecting side bays. A Doric portico with a dentilled cornice originally stood centrally and was later moved forward and widened in the late 19th century, as indicated by the blue brick plinth added to the extensions. Above the portico is a segment-headed 6/6 sash window with a projecting surround. The side bays have similar sash windows in plain openings. The south front is divided by pilasters, with a central 6/6 sash window flanked by an early 19th-century canted bay window, a French window to the left, and a large multi-pane window to the right. These bay windows have blue brick and rendered plinths and were likely resited. Three 6/6 sash windows sit above. The left return has a similar bay window and a round-headed stair window.

An external corridor connects the main building to a single-story ballroom, which has a large square wooden bay window to the west and a projection with an external brick stack to the north. The service ranges feature mostly original 3-light casements on the south side and a canted oriel window on the first floor. The north side showcases a corner-set canted oriel window and a triangular oriel window further east. At the east end are two hipped, single-bay projections, with a recessed bay between them containing three 6/6 sash windows, and a 5-light box dormer in the attic.

The interior includes a pair of half-glazed double doors, with the inner pair featuring glazing bars. A central hallway and staircase have cornices; the early 19th-century staircase and landing feature double stick balusters and a ramped, scrolled hardwood handrail. An elliptical arch on columns and 19th-century fireplaces are also present. The left front room has late 19th-century panelling and early 19th-century arches framing a renewed fireplace. The right front room retains an early 19th-century Classical style marble fireplace. The first-floor landing has elliptical arches, and the main bedrooms have cornices and mid-19th-century slate fireplaces. One smaller bedroom has an early 19th-century eared fireplace and cornice. Most rooms have early 19th-century beaded panelled doors.
