Description

High Cross House and adjoining outbuildings is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid-18th century, with additions from the early 19th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, partly rendered, with a hipped plain tile roof. It has a first-floor band, a single ridge, gable, and external lateral brick stacks. The house is arranged as a two-storey, five-bay structure, forming an L-shaped layout.

The south front features a central reeded, pedimented wooden doorcase, dating to the 20th century, with a 18th-century half-glazed door, flanked by single 12-pane glazing bar sashes. Above are five smaller glazing bar sashes. To the right is a single-storey outbuilding with dentillated eaves and a ridge stack.

The west side has a central pair of glazed doors, flanked to the left by a 20th-century 2-light casement and to the right by a round-headed sash. Above are three tall 19th-century 2-light casements, the one to the right being smaller. To the left are single and two-storey additions featuring dentillated eaves and pantile roofs. A 20th-century lean-to porch includes a casement and a door. To its left is a gabled single-storey wing with 20th-century casements.

The north gable contains a 2-light casement, and above this a large, square early 19th-century oriel window with patterned glazing bars. A further 2-light casement with a segmental head sits above the oriel.

The east side features a hipped 2-storey addition and stair turret, with an adjoining hipped 20th-century porch containing a glazed door flanked by 20th-century casements. To the left is a casement and beyond a 2-light sliding sash, both with segmental heads. To the right is a 20th-century lean-to porch, flanked to the left by a 3-light sliding sash and beyond, a cross casement, both with segmental heads. A further 20th-century casement is situated to the right. Above the porch is a 20th-century casement flanked to the left by a casement with a segmental head and beyond, a tall 2-light casement. Two two-light casements with segmental heads are positioned to the right. The return angle contains a casement with a segmental head and above, a round-headed fixed light.

An adjoining outbuilding to the east has a low barred opening, flanked to the left by a small casement and to the right by a half-glazed door.
