Description
The remains of Repton Priory Church and the Chapter Block are located at Repton School and date from the 13th century and around 1886. The structures are built from sandstone rubble and ashlar, with the chapter block featuring coursed squared rock-faced sandstone and a plain tile roof that has stone coped gables, moulded kneelers, and finials.
Along the north side of Pears School, you can find the footings of the north aisle wall of the priory church. There is a narrow chamfered pointed arch and the remains of the pulpitum at the west end of the choir. East of Pears School are the bases of clustered columns that were part of the chancel and chapels, with various pier types based on the quatrefoil design.
To the north, attached to the chapter block, are the remains of the chapter house doorway, including the bases of shafted responds. There is also a tunnel vaulted inner slype and parlour that leads to the cemetery, along with remnants of the doorway in the warming room. The footings of the refectory wall can be found along the north side of the cloister.
The chapter block itself is two storeys tall and designed in the Tudor style, featuring first and second floor sill bands. The east elevation has two unequal gabled bays. The ground floor includes a large moulded doorway with double doors and a 3-light window. To the left, there is a 3-light ovolo moulded mullion and transom window, with a similar window above it. To the right, there is a 5-light window with a corresponding window above, all featuring returned hoodmoulds and segmental relieving arches, except for one.
