Description
The Pigeoncote at Old Hall Cottages dates from 1689 and has undergone minor later alterations. It is constructed of red brick with vitrified headers in Flemish bond and features a blue brick plinth, along with a band of raised and sawtoothed bricks near the eaves. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, topped by a central open timber cupola that has a hipped conical roof made of metal, and there is a moulded brick eaves cornice. The structure is single storey with an irregular hexagonal plan. The exterior is mostly blind, with the exception of an inserted plank door on the northeast face, which has a small inserted chamfered brick window above it. There is a similar window on the southeast face and the original flat arched door on the northwest side. Above this door is an inserted terracotta panel inscribed 'RII 1686', and on the north corner, just below the band, there are two stone panels with illegible inscriptions. The interior is fully lined with pigeon holes, each featuring a narrow platform at the front with a sawtooth band below, and there is a potence.
