Description
The garden wall to the east of the sunken gardens at the site of Drakelow Hall is a late 18th-century structure that underwent alterations around 1902 by Reginald Blomfield. It is made of red brick, featuring chamfered brick copings and stone dressings. The wall stands 10 feet high and curves to enclose a former orchard. There is a blocked pointed door at the west end and a central gateway designed in the 18th-century style from 1902. This gateway has a moulded rusticated semi-circular arch with high-quality 18th-century style ironwork for the gate. Above the jambs of the arch, plain pilasters rise, topped with large ball finials, and there is a recessed stone cornice between them. The eastern end of the wall is currently in poor condition. Drakelow Hall was demolished in 1934, and Drakelow Power Station now occupies most of the site.
