Description

The office block, loading bay, and north malthouse of the former Yeomans, Cherry and Curtin Brewery were built in 1883 and designed by Scamell & Collyer of London. The structure is made of red brick and consists of three blocks, rising to four and five storeys.

On the left, the office block features four recessed semi-circular headed bays, each with a segmental-headed window, and the third storey window includes a keyblock. To the right, there is a gabled loading bay with two blocked windows above an open bay, which is supported by a plain cast iron column at the centre.

The former North Malting is positioned at right angles to the street and is fronted by a kiln, noted for its unique octagonal shape and originally circular interior, where malt was turned by rotating steam-driven prongs. This five-storey kiln has one window on each face, with generally blocked windows, except for some that feature multi-paned cast iron lights. The kiln is topped with a tall octahedral slate roof, which is surmounted by a metal cowl with a vane shaped like a goat. A four-storeyed block with nine windows extends to the rear.
