Description
The Church of St John, built between 1820 and 1830, is a red brick church located in the former center of Newhall village, facing a green area known as 'Market Place'. It features a short west tower, an aisless nave, and a chancel, all designed in the Gothic style. The tower includes a west door, a window cloak, a belfry window, and a crenellated parapet. It is supported by angle buttresses that rise to small square 'towers' topped with broach spires. The nave has four windows, each with deeply splayed brick arches and dripmoulds, while the chancel boasts a large east window. Inside, there is a panelled west gallery and doors adorned with Gothic ribbed tracery, along with chandeliers. Notable wall monuments include one dedicated to Rev Joseph Clay, who was one of the founders of the church and died in 1836. There is also an open wooden screen that dates back to 1924.
