Description

This description is for a pair of chest tombs located in the graveyard on Castle Street in the parish of Melbourne. The tombs date from 1788 and the early 19th century and are made of stone. The northern tomb features panelled sides and ends, with shaped balusters at the corners. It is topped with a slate slab that has moulded edges and is inscribed in memory of Mr. William Fox, who died on April 26th, 1788, at the age of 64. The southern tomb has plain sides and ends with raised corners, each side decorated with semi-circular headed panels. It is topped with a large chamfered slab that also has moulded edges, though the inscriptions on this tomb are now illegible.
