Description
The Old School House is a building that was originally a school, constructed in 1842. It is made of red brick with sandstone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with stone-coped gables, a brick gable stack, and a brick bellcote. The building has a chamfered stone plinth and is a single storey.
On the east elevation, there are two 2-light casement windows set in moulded stone surrounds, and the west elevation has a similar appearance. The gabled south elevation includes a blocked ogee-arched doorway, which is flanked by ovolo moulded stone cross windows that have diamond lights. Above this, there is a stone shield with an inscription that reads: "This School Room in connection with the Church of England was built by Public subscription on a site presented by Sir G Crewe Bart AD MDCCXLII." The building was converted into a house in 1979 by the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust.
