Description

Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 17th century and early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and features plain tile roofs. The early 18th-century section has brick gable stacks, while the late 17th-century part has a central brick ridge stack. The gables are stone-coped with plain kneelers. The building has two and three storeys, with the early 18th-century three-storey range on the west side showcasing chamfered stone quoins and a moulded cornice.

The south elevation consists of five bays, with a central painted stone doorcase that has a hoodmould supported by consoles. The door is raised and fielded with a rectangular overlight, flanked by two glazing bar sash windows on each side, all featuring wedge brick lintels and stepped keystones. Above, there are five similar windows, with five smaller versions above them. To the right is a lower two-bay range from the late 17th century, which has a dentil stringcourse and a sawtooth eaves cornice. The ground floor of this range includes a doorway with a flat arch and a plank door, a wooden cross window with a segment head to the right, and a three-light casement to the left under a plain lintel. Above are two segmental arched cross windows.

Attached to the west are a range of 19th-century outbuildings and a 19th-century wing at the rear. Inside, there is an open string staircase around an open well, featuring two heavy turned balusters per tread, a heavy wreathed and ramped handrail, and carved tread ends. The first floor rooms have two later 18th-century style chimneypieces.
