Description

The war memorial and pump, located in Bretby, dates from the 18th century and around 1918. It features a timber structure with a shingled roof topped by a cross finial. The memorial is designed as an open octagonal shelter supported by plain square posts and segmental arches. Beneath the eaves, there is an inscription from 1914 that reads "In Memory of ....." along with the names of local individuals who died in the First World War. Inside the shelter, there is a village pump housed in an 18th-century panelled wooden box with a pyramidal top. In front of the memorial, there is a stone water trough.
