Description
Geary House is a house built in 1813, possibly designed by William Martin, who was the estate architect for the Earl of Chesterfield. The house features red brick construction with gauged brick dressings and has a hipped plain tile roof with a central brick ridge stack and recessed brick panels. There are plain brick ridge stacks on the rear wing, and the eaves overhang with double brackets. The building has a rendered plinth and is laid out in a T-plan over two storeys.
The east elevation is symmetrical and consists of three bays. The central doorway has a moulded architrave and a panelled door, with the top four panels being glazed. Above the door is a rectangular overlight, and on either side are glazing bar sashes with segment heads and stone sills that have inset panels. Above, there are three similar sashes under flat arches. The south elevation has similar windows in one bay. The long rear wing features glazing bar sashes under wedge lintels, with a doorway to the right also having a wedge lintel.
Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a wreathed handrail. The ground floor north room includes semi-circular headed recesses with shelves on either side of the chimney breast. The marble surround of the fireplace in this room is currently dismantled but remains on site.
