Description
Old Hall Cottage, originally a two-story wing of the adjacent Old Hall, dates to the early 17th century and was altered in the 19th century, with further extensions and remodelling in 1986. It is constructed of coursed rubble Coal Measures sandstone with ashlar dressings, quoins, a coped gable to the west end, one ashlar and one brick chimney to the ridge, and a stone-slated roof. The south elevation has five bays, the easternmost bay gabled and forming part of the Old Hall. A remodelled central doorway has a plain lintel and a 20th-century boarded door. To the east is a two-light chamfered mullioned window beneath a drip mould, with two shallow two-light chamfered mullioned openings, and a single-light opening above, all dating to the 17th century. The gabled end bay features a ground-floor doorway and a two-light chamfered mullioned window with a drip mould above. To the west of the central door is a 20th-century two-light window, with a 17th-century two-light chamfered mullioned window above. All windows have 20th-century leaded lights. The rear elevation was remodelled and extended. The interior has been completely remodelled.
