Description
This building, located to the southeast of Unthank Hall, is a house that was originally a stable from the 17th century and was converted and extended in 1985. It is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, featuring quoins and coped gables with moulded kneelers. The roof is stone slated and has 20th-century gable stacks.
The northeast elevation has two storeys and a two-bay front, with a 20th-century lean-to addition on the southwest gable. The off-centre doorway, restored in 1985, has a chamfered quoined surround and a massive lintel beneath a dripmould, with a 20th-century plank door. To the northeast of the doorway is a three-light window, while to the southwest is a two-light window, both with recessed chamfered mullions, some of which have been renewed in the 20th century. The first floor features a two-light and a three-light window, also with chamfered mullions but without dripmoulds. The northeast gable has a single two-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor, and above it are three tiers of stone perches and entry holes that were part of a former attic dovecote.
