Description
Slack Lane Farmhouse is a house that was originally built as a farmhouse in the 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed squared and squared rubble gritstone, featuring quoins, ashlar dressings, and ashlar ridge and gable stacks, topped with a stone slated roof.
The south-west elevation has two storeys and three bays, with an off-centre doorway that has a massive stone surround and a deep lintel, leading to a 20th-century boarded door. On either side of the doorway, there are stacked two-light flush-mullioned windows with margin light sashes. At the south-east end, there is a stub wall from a former adjoining building, along with a gable wall made of rubble gritstone.
The rear elevation includes a wing that is one-and-a-half storeys high, featuring a catslide roof extension that reaches the line of the north-west gable. There is a doorway at the junction of the wing and the main range, and the rear wing partially conceals an 18th-century mullioned window. Inside, the farmhouse contains late 18th-century hearths and exposed ceiling beams, and the overall plan remains largely unchanged.
