Description
Holmgate House is a house dating from 1727, with minor alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and quoins. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with concrete tiles, featuring moulded stone copings and kneelers to the gable walls. There are two stone gable end stacks with moulded cornices. The house has continuous first and second storey string courses.
The building is two storeys plus attics, with a four-bay L-shaped plan, centered on a quoined bay. The front features a central flush doorcase with a 20th-century studded wooden door. To either side are pairs of two-light flush mullion windows. Above the door is a plaque inscribed 'HM 1727' and a lead fire insurance plaque, with four two-light flush mullion windows above that. All the windows are 20th-century casements. A large early 20th-century mullion and transom stair window is located in the western rear wing. Blocked attic windows are present in the gable ends.
