Description
Morley Almshouses is a terrace of six almshouses founded and built for Jacynth Sacheverell in 1656. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and features a plain tile roof with chamfered stone coped gables and three brick stacks positioned just off the ridge. It is a single-storey structure with a symmetrical south elevation consisting of twelve bays and a central gable.
The facade includes two doorways, each with chamfered stone lintels and sills, leading to plank doors. Above these doorways is a large aedicule supported by Ionic pilasters and topped with a broken pediment, which encloses the Sacheverell coat of arms. A square sundial is positioned above the pediment. To the right of the central gable are a 2-light window, two single light windows, and another 2-light recessed and chamfered mullioned window. There are two additional doorways with chamfered lintels and sills, leading to plank doors, followed by a further 2-light window and a single recessed and chamfered mullion window. The doorways and windows on the left side of the gable mirror those on the right, creating a balanced and symmetrical appearance.
