Description
The Recreation Room Tithe Barn and Dovecote is a 16th-century tithe barn that has been converted into a house and is now used for storage and as a recreation room. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a plain tile roof that features a brick stack in the pitch. The building has two storeys and the north elevation consists of four bays. The central doorway has a moulded round arch with ashlar spandrels and a hoodmould. There is a 19th-century doorway with ashlar jambs and a plank door. To the left, there is a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, a segmental arched cart entrance, and another similar 3-light window. To the right, there is a similar 3-light window, a 19th-century doorway with a stone lintel, and a 19th-century gabled cart shed attached to the north. The first floor features four 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows and a 19th-century doorway with a plank door. The west elevation has a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window on each floor, with the upper one altered and partly blocked. The south elevation includes one similar window and two massive buttresses. Inside, the barn has a double purlin roof supported by diagonal queen posts and diagonal braces.
