Description
The stable block, now used as a residence, is located north west of Breadsall Priory and dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared rock-faced gritstone with gritstone dressings and features plain tile roofs, stone coped gables with finials, and an ashlar ridge stack. The building is arranged in a U-plan and is single storey.
To the east, there is a wall enclosing a courtyard that includes a depressed gothic-arched gateway with a crow stepped gable. The gable ends to the east feature a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a blind quatrefoil above. Inside the courtyard, there are gothic-arched openings and cross windows. The north range has been altered in the 20th century, particularly in the coach houses. The west range features a gabled centre with a circular clock face and a two-tiered bell turret topped with a lead spirelet and weather vane. There is one 19th-century gabled dormer on the south range with a 2-light chamfered mullion window, along with five 20th-century dormers on the west and north ranges. The stable block is listed for its group value.
