Description
The entrance gates and walls to Snelston Hall were built around 1828 by L N Cottingham. They consist of two pairs of gate piers connected by walls made of sandstone, featuring timber and iron gates. The design includes curving walls that step up at either end near the piers, topped with bolection moulded copings. In the center, there are a pair of octagonal piers with ogee finials on tapering stems. Each side of these central piers has a long, thin niche decorated with small spheres. The piers at the ends are also octagonal but plain, with moulded cornices above and large tops made of a tapering octagonal base, topped with upturned ogee octagonal finials, linked by a moulded band. The gate between the two central piers is a timber grid, with the lowest two rows filled with timber panels and the upper two rows featuring decorative metalwork.
