Description

The waterwheel on Water Lane in Cromford dates from the late 18th century and was built by Richard Arkwright to supply power for his machine shop. The large iron overshot wheel seems to be a later addition and is situated between a substantial, partly ruined stone wall and the gabled end of the former machine shop, which has undergone significant alterations and is now primarily used as a motor repair shop.
