Description

This is a late 18th or early 19th century cottage row, located on Sturston Road, Ashbourne. The row comprises the properties at numbers 7, 9, 11, and 15. It is constructed of rendered brick with a Staffordshire blue tile roof and red brick chimney stacks, with the exception of the chimney stack at number 15. The design follows a double-depth plan.

The row is two storeys high and originally had a five-window front. Original 8/8-pane sash windows remain at numbers 9, 11, and 15, while numbers 7 and 13 have 20th-century replacement windows. Plank doors are set within pegged timber frames. The rear of the properties contain 20th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected.

The cottage row is notably complete and representative of its period. Number 13 was the birthplace of Katherine Mumford, who later became the wife of General Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army.
