Description

The Grove and the Beeches are two houses that were originally one dwelling, with extensions added over time. They date from the early 19th century, with a late 19th-century addition and alterations. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, rising from a shallow chamfered plinth. They feature coped gables with kneelers and ashlar gable chimneys from the earliest phase, while the extension has plain verges. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate.

The complex has an irregular L-shaped plan, aligned north-south, with the earliest phase located to the west and the later phase, now a separate dwelling, to the north. The west elevation consists of a three-bay, three-storey range, with a two-storey bay at the north end. Further north, set back and extending behind the main range, is a late 19th-century two-bay addition. The three-storey range has expressed quoins and glazing bar sashes set within advanced ashlar surrounds. The window openings decrease in height, featuring tall six over six pane sashes on the ground floor, smaller versions on the first floor, and shorter three over six pane windows on the upper floor. There is a central doorway with a moulded architrave and a shallow cornice hood, along with a moulded eaves cornice. The lower section to the north includes a single glazing bar sash and a doorway with a plain surround. The later set-back range further north has two undivided first-floor sash windows and a single-storey bay window with a hipped roof that includes an integral doorway. The north gable features a canted ground floor bay window.

The interiors have not been inspected.
