Description
Potters Cottage is a stone house dating from 1763, as indicated by a date plaque inscribed 'Jonathan and Alice Potter 1763'. The house features a symmetrical elevation and a long southern wing, which was formerly a separate cottage. It faces a T-junction across a small front garden. The building is constructed of coursed gritstone with quoins, an eaves cornice, and a roof that has coped gable ends and kneelers. The roof is now covered with modern tiles and has end chimneys.
The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows, each with two lights, featuring stone band surrounds and square section stone mullions. Above the central door, there is a flat stone door hood supported by consoles. The southern wing, which dates from the 18th century, has altered fenestration.
Inside, the main house contains three stone fireplaces. One fireplace has a large stone hood supported by moulded corbels and chamfered jambs, while the other two have plain stone surrounds with triangular cornices forming the mantlepieces. There are also two stop-chamfered beams, one of which has moulded stops.
