Description
Shirley Mill Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse constructed of red brick with plain tile roofs. It features brick gable end stacks and a lateral brick stack, along with a dentilled eaves band. The building has two and three storeys, with the east elevation displaying three bays on the left and two bays on the right. The left side has a three-storey double fronted range, with a central doorway that has a wooden surround, an overlight, and a panelled door. This doorway is flanked by tall glazing bar sash windows under double keystoned wedge lintels. Above, there are three smaller windows of the same style, and two even smaller windows above those. To the right is a two-storey range that includes a lean-to 20th-century porch and a 2-light casement window under a segmental arch, with two similar windows above. Inside, there is an open well staircase featuring stick balusters, a ramped and wreathed handrail, and an open string with carved brackets. The interior also includes several plain early 19th-century chimney pieces with fluting. A half-demolished mill is attached to the north of the farmhouse.
