Description
The pair of houses at the Meynell Hunt Kennels and Stables were built between 1874 and 1877 by architect George Devey. They are constructed of red brick featuring orange brick diaper work, with sandstone dressings and plain tile roofs. The buildings have a brick ridge stack with four diamond-shaped shafts and a similar lateral stack to the east, along with two additional lateral stacks that have paired diamond-shaped shafts.
The houses are two storeys high with an irregular plan and elevations. They feature square-section flush stone mullion windows with brick relieving arches. The six-bay west elevation includes, from left to right, a 3-light window, a pair of projecting gabled bays with a single light, and a 4-light window on the ground floor, along with a 2-light and a 3-light window above. To the right, there is a 4-light window with a 3-light window above it beneath a gable, followed by a doorway with a segmental head and a 2-light window above. A projecting bay with a single light window is located on the first floor beneath a gable that is interrupted by a chimney stack. The south elevation features a two-storey bay window on the left with 4-light windows. The walls and outhouses are attached to the east side of the houses. Original drawings for the buildings can be found in the RIBA Drawings Collection.
