Description
The railings, gates, and gatepiers to Wirksworth Baptist Cemetery Chapel date from the mid-19th century. They consist of low, curved stone walls topped with steeply chamfered, dressed copings that support plain pointed railings. The gate piers are square in plan and made of gritstone monoliths, featuring simple moulded pyramidal caps and ball finials. These piers support railed gates that have ramped upper horizontal rails, along with bobbin finials on the hanging bars and the railings next to the meeting bars. The terminal piers at the outer ends of the walls vary in height to accommodate the sloping site. Together, the walls, railings, gates, and gatepiers outline the frontage of the Baptist cemetery and are an important, separate feature of the cemetery chapel's setting.
