Description

Southgate House is a small country house, later adapted for use as a hotel, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of painted render with painted stone dressings and chamfered quoins, and has a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate. Chimneys are integrated into the roof valley. The house is arranged over three storeys and features a plinth and first-floor bands. The east elevation has three symmetrical bays, with the central bay slightly projected and crowned by a pediment. The central entrance is tripartite, with a round-arched fanlight above the doorway, and is flanked by sash windows with keystones. Above this is a broad Venetian window with an ashlar surround, also flanked by sash windows with keystones. The top floor has a central tripartite window, with a segmental arch over the centre light, and is similarly flanked by sash windows with keystones.
