Description

Beightonfields Priory is a small country house that dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and coursed squared sandstone, featuring sandstone dressings and quoins, with machine tile roofs. The building has stone-coped gables with plain kneelers and brick ridge and gable stacks. It is designed in an H-plan and has two storeys and attics.

The west elevation consists of 2-3-2 bays, with the outer bays projecting and gabled. There is a central doorway with a moulded stone doorcase and a segmental pediment, leading to a raised and fielded panelled door. On each side of the doorway are three glazing bar sash windows in plain ashlar surrounds, with seven similar windows above. The gables feature two smaller fixed light windows and two gabled roof dormers.

The south elevation includes a two-storey 19th-century canted bay window with three cross windows on each floor. To the right, there is an 18th-century staircase window with two stone transoms. The north elevation also has an 18th-century staircase window, which features four stone transoms. The rear elevation is made of brick with stone dressings and has a flight of semi-circular stone steps leading up to a plain central doorway. To the right is a glazing bar sash window, and to the left is a small window. Above are two stone cross windows. The return elevation to the north has large 20th-century windows.

Inside, the house features two dogleg staircases. One has an open string with two turned balusters per tread, carved tread ends, and a wreathed and ramped handrail. The other staircase has a closed string and splat balusters. There are some 17th-century style panels and 18th-century style chimneypieces.
