Description
The Mount is a house built in the early 18th century, which incorporates elements from an earlier structure. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble gritstone with quoins, and features coped gables with moulded kneelers and end ridge stacks, three of which are made of brick and one of stone. The roofs are covered with stone slates. The main range has a double pile crosswing to the west.
The east elevation is three storeys high and has two bays. It includes stacked timber cross windows in flush stone frames on either side of a central doorway, which is now enclosed by a glazed porch with a pitched roof added in the 20th century. There are plain bands at the heads of the ground and first floor windows, which step up over the window heads. The upper floor windows have been raised and now form flat-roofed dormers with leaded 2-light frames. At the north end, there is a massive stepped masonry external chimney.
The main range's doorway features a quoined surround, a semi-circular fanlight beneath a semi-circular head, and radiating glazing bars, with a 20th-century glazed door. The rear elevation has a five-stage stair window in a flush surround.
