Description
Nos 10 and 12 Bowns Hill are a pair of houses dating from the late 18th century, with some remodelling in the 19th century. They are built from regularly coursed gritstone and feature quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers on the south gable, and at the junction of the two houses. The houses have intermediate and gable end brick stacks, topped with slate roofs.
The buildings are two storeys high and consist of four bays, with the two southern bays arranged in a double pile plan. The façade includes three 3-light flush mullioned windows and one sash window set within a flush stone frame. On the ground floor, there are two shop fronts flanking a central doorway, both featuring a moulded timber cornice. The south end bay has a restored 3-light flush mullioned window with a plain drip mould, while the north end bay contains two 2-light casements, one of which is in a blocked former doorway that has quoins and a massive lintel. The central doorway has been altered but retains its lintel and part of the quoined surround, and it features a 20th-century six-panelled door.
