Description
Honeymoon Cottage, Sheaf Cottage, and Sheaf House form a terrace of one house and two cottages, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The buildings feature coursed squared brick with gritstone quoins at the north end, roughcast on the rear elevation and north gable, brick ridge stacks, and plain tiled roofs, except for the south end, which has a stone slate roof with coped gables. The range consists of five bays: the north bay, Sheaf House, is three storeys high; the central three bays, Sheaf Cottage, are two storeys; and the south bay, Honeymoon Cottage, is also two storeys. Sheaf House has 3-light flush mullioned windows on the ground and first floors, and a 2-light flush mullioned window on the second floor. There are various 19th and 20th century sash frames, and the doorway has stone surrounds with a plain planked door. The two-storey cottages have six-pane sash windows with monolith lintels and cills. The door to Honeymoon Cottage is a glazed 20th century design. An arched passage runs through the central bay of Sheaf Cottage, and both external doors have trellised porches. A gabled wing extends from the rear of Sheaf House. Together, the house and cottages form a cohesive group.
