Description
This is a range of three houses located at 12, 14, and 16 The Common, dating from the late 18th century. The houses are constructed of coursed squared gritstone and feature intermediate and end ridge stacks, with slated roofs that are of even height but otherwise irregular. The buildings are three storeys tall and have an irregular pattern of fenestration. The window openings are plain, with plain lintels and cills. Most windows have 20th-century replacements of sash frames, though No 16 includes some 20th-century top hung lights with small paned windows. The third floor of No 12 has renewed windows for a frame knitting workshop, featuring eight nine-paned lights. There are four doorways, all with massive jambs and lintels, with the two at the north end forming a coupled pair. The doors are plain planked and six-panelled, all dating from the 20th century. At the rear of No 12, there is a projecting wing that has a blocked frameshop window on the second floor.
