Description
The walls at Ireton Gardens, built between 1761 and 1763, are Grade II listed structures that enclose the former gardens. Constructed from red brick with sandstone copings, the main enclosure is roughly square with curved angles to the south and features two cross walls. The broader upper enclosure includes a segmental curved north forcing wall adorned with ten segmental curved projections. There are segmental arched doorways that have raised and fielded panelled doors, as well as a cart entrance to the north with a segmental head and key block, featuring double doors. The Ireton Gardens were once extensive and notable enough to be mentioned in a poem published in the Gentleman's Magazine in 1744.
