Description

The Grange is a house located on Church Road in the parish of Quarndon. It was built in the late 18th century and significantly remodeled in the early 19th century. The structure is made of red brick, mostly covered with cement render, and features hipped and gabled roofs made of Welsh slate. The gabled sections have chamfered stone copings and plain kneelers, with two brick ridge stacks and three side wall stacks.

The house is two storeys tall and has an irregular L-plan layout. The south elevation consists of two bays on the left side, which are slightly taller and topped with a hipped roof. This section has two ground floor windows with glazing bars and ogee glazing bars, adorned with returned Tudor style hoodmoulds. Above, there are two smaller windows of the same style with shallow bowed balconies. The right side features a 20th-century glazed door on the ground floor, a tall staircase window that matches the others, and two additional similar windows along with a smaller 20th-century window above.

On the west elevation, there is a canted bay window with a battlemented parapet and Gothick glazing. The rear of the house includes a brick wing with glazing bar sashes under plain lintels, and a doorcase with a segmental pediment, which was added in 1959. The interior has been altered, featuring a Regency style staircase made in 1959 and one re-used 18th-century chimneypiece.
